Bel Esprit Easter 2009

BEL ESPRIT - TOAST OF SINGAPORE
Eliza Park’s Asian rep, Lyle Plumb, is convinced there should be an award for the leading stallion in Singapore.
“Bel Esprit is extremely popular in this rapidly flourishing racing centre and it’s not hard to work out why. His progeny have only had 10 starts in 2009 for six wins and two placings: they’re on fire.
“Bel Esprit certainly gets Michael Freedman’s vote who has been the beneficiary of five of those victories.
“Aranda got the ball rolling when he blew away his rivals over 1200m at Kranji on Friday (10 April) night, scoring by over two lengths running away. Bred by Lee Fleming and owned by the Northwest Racing Stable, Aranda (ex Centro mare Orchid Lady) has now won two from four and it would hardly surprise to see him improve on that strike rate in the weeks to come.
“The win of Mooring on Saturday though really encapsulated Bel Esprit’s impact in this neck of the woods.
“Although failing on debut, Mooring has since reeled off three consecutive victories for Freedman and the stable is now eyeing off the 3YO Triple Crown for the star recruit.
“Mooring’s win on Saturday was nothing short of brilliant. He flew down the outside to score by over two lengths and his winning time of 1:9.8 seconds was only 0.6 seconds outside the eight year old track record.
“Mooring was bred by Ariel Arnott out of her At Talaq mare, Drop Anchor, and is a full brother to recent Robert Sangster Stakes-G1 winner Bel Mer.
“And just to top it all off, another Bel Esprit in the Desmond Koh trained Perfect Sky was an impressive first up winner at Kranji recently.
“Let’s put it this way, I’ve certainly been getting plenty of enquiries about Bel Esprit of late!”
