Maybe I Steals Show From De Lightning Ridge
Story By Alex Steedman
Saturday, 26 July 2008: Gai Waterhouse trained filly Maybe I has won on debut in the Sky Chase Handicap (1200m) today at Canterbury with much talked about De Lightning Ridge unable to show her best.
De Lightning Ridge
Maybe I was positioned for most of the race midfield on the rail behind leader Trigon. At the top of the short Canterbury straight, jockey Nash Rawiller had no trouble in finding a clear run and proceeded to chase Elusive Gift who'd just kicked to a two-length lead over the rest of the field.Maybe I made up ground on the leader at a rapid rate from just inside the 200m and was driven past Elusive Gift in the final 20m to win by three-quarters of a length. Elusive Gift held on for second in what was her first run in town.Another who put in a huge run was Apparitions. The Bel Esprit filly came from last at the turn and carved her way through the field to finish two lengths behind in third.
