Bookies Get Worked At Ballarat
Friday, 1 May 2009:
Colin Little unearthed a budding stayer in the sensationally backed Work The Room at Ballarat today. The gelding, a half brother to Zipping, was crunched on course for his debut, firming from $3.70 to start odds-on at $1.90.
Ridden by Danny Brereton, he was last early but edged closer under his own steam on the inside before being angled out wider. In the clear in the straight, he cruised up the leader and won by a length under a solid hold.
Little said Work The Room had always shown ability but felt he would be a stayer.“Even though he's by Bel Esprit we think he'll stay, like Zipping,” Little said. “He's needed a lot of time. The owners have been patient but I think they'll see a very nice horse.”
Little paid $160,000 for the gelding at the Inglis easter sales. He is from the mare Social Scene, who is a half sister to 2005 Champion European three-year-old Scorpion, who won three Group 1 races and Canadian Group 1 winner Memories.
