La Bella Roo Faces Flemington Test
Bendigo trainer Peter Boynton brings unbeaten filly La Bella Roo to town for the first time at Flemington on Saturday when she will be out to complete a winning hat-trick.
La Bella Roo joined Boynton unraced after a stint with a Melbourne stable and won at her race debut by five lengths in an Echuca Maiden (1000m) on Melbourne Cup day before a three-quarter length victory over Johnny Fiasco in a Rating 68 Hcp (1100m) on her home track on November 27.
"She's earned a crack at a city race after those efforts," said Boynton who has had metropolitan success with handy sprinter Spectacular Saint who is currently sidelined with a knee injury.
It was the link with one of Spectacular Saint's part-owners Terry Hurford that lead to Boynton getting La Bella Roo to train.
Hurford, who is also a part-owner of the Anthony Cummings-trained Turffontein, winner of the Group Two 2008 Queensland Guineas and a multiple Group One placegetter, bought her cheaply.
"She had been through a city stable and didn't settle in, as she wouldn't because she's a very hot-headed little filly," Boynton said.
However she has fitted in very nicely with Boynton who has only six or seven horses in work and rides all his own trackwork.
By Blue Diamond Stakes and Doomben 10,000 winner Bel Esprit, La Bella Roo is raced under the Roo Bowlers Racing Syndicate managed by Ron Murphy.
The syndicate is comprised of 16 bowlers from Kangaroo Flat near Bendigo.
Apprentice Dean Holland will ride La Bella Roo in the Qenos Hcp (1000m) down the straight course against seven rivals including smart Tasmanian filly Tempest Tost and last-start Moonee Valley winner Emma Princess.
Holland was been aboard the filly in both of her wins.
