Werribee Quinella for Bel Esprit

Tara Madgwick - Sunday, December 31, 2006

Eliza Park based Bel Esprit sired the quinella in the juvenile event over 1000 metres at Werribee on New Year’s Eve, with the Lee Freedman trained colt Beau Esprit defeating Rich Forever by two and a half lengths.Beau Esprit was having his second race start having finished fifth to Meurice in the Listed MRC Debutants Stakes at Caulfield during the spring.A $120,000 purchase for respected agent Adrian Nicoll from the draft of Newhaven Park Stud at the 2006 Magic Millions Yearling Sale, Beau Esprit is the second foal of the stakes-winning Centaine mare Centennial (NZ).Beau Esprit is the second winner for dual Group One winner Bel Esprit (pictured) who has 13 yearlings catalogued at Magic Millions with seven to follow at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale, then his largest consignment of 25 yearlings to be offered in Melbourne at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

BEAU REIGNS
I didn’t see the run, but the ‘texted’ description of Beau Esprit’s win at Wodonga today (30 November) was accompanied by a term usually associated with heavy rain.Indeed, the margin was quite emphatic on paper (4.25 lengths) but in reality, could have been greater if jockey Brendan Ward had so desired.
Naturally, Beau Esprit’s owners – including original Bel Esprit part-owner, Michael Duffy – were ecstatic with the win: Beau Esprit’s fourth from 17 starts (plus five placings).Winning two of his last three serves to underline his sire’s propensity for producing horses that can win at two and train on.Beau Esprit raced on five occasions at two (twice at stakes level), nine times as a 3YO (for a win and a city placing) and now thrice at four for two wins and a close up fifth.
And while we’re on the Bel Esprit bandwagon, Beau Esprit was his fifth winner in five days.We have only just advertised the fact that Bel Esprit has now produced the winners of over 100
